George T. Whitestides is the CEO of Virgin Galactic and The Spaceship Company, within Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group. Virgin Galactic is a space tourism company developing commercial spacecraft and aiming to offer suborbital flights into space to paying customers. Prior to joining Virgin Galactic and The Spaceship Company, George T. Whitesides was NASA's Chief of Staff where he was awarded the company's highest honour, the Distinguished Service Medal. Space News recently named him one of 12 'People to Watch' in the space industry. George has also served as the Executive Director of the National Space Society (NSS), co-founded Yuri's Night that hosts parties to celebrate humanity's aerospace achievements, and has sat on the board of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Space Security. He is now the co-Chair of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Space Technologies, is a member of Caltech's Space Innovation Council, Princeton's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department Advisory Council, and sits on the advisory board of the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement.
