Carlsberg fizzes on Asia, premium beers2019|00:43
As talk of global recession builds, markets aren't exactly in party mood. But Carlsberg brought cheer to some investors on Thursday (August 15). Sales were up six and half per cent in the first half, it says. That's despite declining sales in its key market, Russia They've suffered from price hikes and tough competition. Asia, instead, provided the main boost with revenue growth of 15 per cent. And - with the Danish firm's new emphasis on selling its pricier brands - sales there of premium beers increased, pushing total revenues to a fraction under 33 billion Danish crowns - just under 5 billion dollars. Carlsberg shares were up over 5 per cent after the European market open.
