A Maasai CeremonyCulture, Travel|2019|03:07
In Tanzania, young Maasai men go through a ceremony that marks their maturity into manhood. Now considered ready to become warriors, the young men listen to stories and are tormented by the other tribesmen to make them aggressive and strong ahead of the ceremony. Watching other warriors and elders, the young men learn how to slaughter a cow, get the best cuts of meat, cook it over the fire to feed the whole village, and prepare the hides to use as mattresses. Then, at 1am, it is time for their circumcision, administered without anaesthetic or pain relief.
