German court bans Uber ride-hailing in Germany
2019|01:01Germany's main stock exchange welcomed Uber's share debut in May this year. German judicial authorities appeared less keen on the ride-hailing service - on Thursday (December 19) banning it. Uber operates in seven German cities - by working exclusively with car rental companies and their drivers. The court says it doesn't have a licence to do that. An earlier ruling forbids Uber from using owner-drivers. The plaintiff - app provider Taxi Deutschland - is calling for immediate enforcement of the new court order. It says Uber could then be fined if it breaks the ruling ... by up to 250,000 euros for repeated offences, per ride. It's just the latest in a series of negative headlines for the U.S. firm. London last month took away its licence over safety issues - an appeal is pending. But that ruling comes after run-ins around the world with regulators, courts and drivers. As for its share price: it has in recent months lost around a third of its launch value.
