Is this the dumbest play of the NBA season?2021|03:15
We may have witnessed the dumbest play of the season during the closing seconds of the Nuggets vs Wizards game on Thursday. It was so crazy that both teams were equally surprised by it. Let me explain what happened and try to understand why it happened. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Down by 2 at the end, with 7 second difference between shot clock and game clock, Denver obviously needs a stop and a score. And they get the best possible chance after a long bounce transforms into a 4 on 1 break. But then check out what they get out of it. Scramble situation, Campazzo shoots a tough shot at the buzzer and misses almost everything. As we take a look at this angle, it’s unreal to me how first of all Murray isn’t really attacking the basket. He is already starting to fade to the left instead of going in a straight line all the way to the rim. But then check out the other 3 Nuggets players who had a clean layup. Absolutely nobody here so they could walk their way to an easy basket to tie the game. But instead every one of Campazzo, Morris and Porter Jr, just line up one next to the other at the three point line. And again, this is what they get out of that 4 on 1 situation. To me this sparks a wider conversation about today’s style of play. What Steph Curry and Klay Thompson did- stopping on a break and hitting a three, influenced an entire generation that this is the correct way of doing things, and that you should do it because 3 is of course worth more than 2 points. But on 1 side we have the absolute best shooters in NBA history, and on the other side we have average guys in an end of game situation down by 2 with open lane and a chance to tie it with an almost 100% Just like the rule on defense is always to stop the ball first, and teams have failed to do that- The same way the rule on offense rule is, always go for the easiest and highest percentage shot available. And Denver failed to do that in this situation. To say that coach Mike Malone was disappointed after the game would definitely be an understatement. And again at the very end I just want to stress how as guilty as the other 3 guys are, Jamal Murray is responsible just as much for it since he initially did not look to attack with the ball in his hands and kinda settled right here at the 3 point line. To me that’s unacceptable. Anyway this was just a quick video to teach the young guys to always go for the easiest opportunity available, especially with the game on the line. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
