Journey to the deep south with Richie and Gemma McCaw as they explore Fiordland and the breathtaking Catlins. It’s a weekend road trip they can’t wait to share as they visit untouched forests, come face to face with endangered wildlife and meet the locals who live there. With Gemma hailing from the North Island, and Richie from the South the friendly rivalry escalates as Richie shows off what the region has to offer. But even though Southland’s Richie’s own backyard, he’s never experienced it like this. On Saturday his boy scout skills come into play at Lake Hankinson in the oldest DOC hut in Fiordland, while Gemma perfects her landscape photography. Sunday, sees them venture into the Catlins, coming face to face with sealions before taking in the majestic views from the Nugget Point lighthouse. Guided by locals, the pair get an ‘off the beaten track’ experience of a unique region unlike any other.
