Swiss teen captures realistic looking spider created with visual effects2021|00:48
Watch this teenager apparently capture a terrifying spider - that he created himself using special effects on his computer. In the video Nik Kottmann can be seen using a treat on a string to lure an uncomfortably large spider out from under a cabinet before capturing it with a pot. While the spider may look real, it's a clever CGI animation created by Nik. "People were unsure whether it was real or not and asked themselves how it was done," said the 19-year-old from Switzerland. "This made them watch the video multiple times and write a lot of comments."Nik became interested in visual effects while working on a school project in 2018. "It was a perfect match and I immediately started watching tutorials and tried to create my own CGI videos," he said. "After I finished it, I didn't stop and continued to work on my own CGI projects." Now, he creates effects of everything from UFO's, raving crabs, flying chairs, cars doing backflips and swarms of spiders. Nik spends anywhere between six to 10 hours recording a scene, pretending the animation is there the entire time, before using a 3D software program to edit the object in and animate it.The clever teen said the CGI spider video really caught people's attention because of the disturbing aspect of it."A lot of people are afraid of spiders," he said. "This catches their attention. Also, everyone has a friend who is scared of spiders, which led to my videos being shared."Since finishing high school last summer, Nik has been working on his CGI projects and even offers tutorials on blenderdaily.xyz.While many of Nik's videos include animated spiders, he currently doesn't have any real ones of his own. "I'd love to have one though," he said.
