Protesters try to storm Lebanese Economy Ministry building01:03
Protesters tried to storm the Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade. Footage shows several people using a metal barrier as a battering ram to break down an entrance to the building. The protest comes at a time of mounting discontent over the country’s economic situation. According to the World Bank Group, Lebanon is facing one of the 'most severe crises episodes globally since the mid-nineteenth century'. Protests also erupted earlier in the week over concerns Lebanon’s central bank had gone bankrupt. The bank had announced that withdrawals of US dollars would be halted. After protesters took to the streets the bank reversed its decision.
