Episode 3: Whanganui/TaranakiBRANDED|2021|14:48|G
From the mountain, down the river and to the sea, Richie and Gemma explore the culture and dramatic landscape of the Whanganui and Taranaki region. The weekend offers no shortage of fun activities and welcoming locals as the McCaws connect with the land in a very special part of Aotearoa. Always keen for action, Richie takes to the water straight away journeying down the Whanganui river in a canoe and then wet-suiting up for a surf lesson on New Plymouth’s Fitzroy Beach. Determined to catch a wave, he sets out to prove himself to Tauranga surfie Gemma. Gemma opts for some relaxing me-time at a picturesque yoga retreat surrounded by bush. Together they discover Whanganui’s hidden gem Pūtiki Church, an early historical site joining Christian beliefs with Māori traditions in a beautifully crafted space. Later, they visit Egmont National Park with local kaitiaki Jamie who shares the legend of the region’s iconic maunga.
