A showcase of Māori tech businesses protecting the environment
2022|22:23Kaitiakitanga represents the guardianship of natural resources, and can help businesses to act responsibly with the environment. In this session we showcase Māori businesses whose purpose is deeply rooted in their connection to the natural environment, looking beyond profit and recognising how environmental impacts drive decision making in Māori business. Sustainability and the environment is top of mind for many Māori businesses too - a report from BDO last year found that 88% of Māori businesses consider their business to be environmentally sustainable. Further, last year the Productivity Commission reported that Māori frontier firms are faster-growing, more innovative, more likely to export than other firms. Our panellists for this session will dive into this, and discuss where innovation, technology, the environment and Māori business overlap. Be sure to tune into this session to hear from some of New Zealand’s leading environmental innovators on how they’re using tech to care for the environment, work with the land, and protect natural resources. Panelists include: - Rikirangi Gage, Te Whanau a Apanui - Mana Newton, Tauhara North No 2 Trust - Manu Caddie, Rua Bioscience - Damian Ngata, Callaghan Innovation
