A Failure of Justice - The Susan Burdett Murder
Crime, Current Affairs, New Zealand|2016|M CSVWhen a teenage boy walked into a police station and gave an interview in which he apparently confessed to a brutal rape and murder it seemed the case was closed. Justice, for the victim, Susan Burdett, had finally been done. In fact, it was the beginning of one of New Zealand's worst miscarriages of justice. Teina Pora spent more than 20 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, even after the revelation that DNA evidence pointed to the country's most prolific serial rapist, Malcolm Rewa. Stuff Circuit's investigations helped free Teina Pora, and contributed to the eventual conviction of Malcolm Rewa.
